A team of 24 cancer survivors, advocates, caregivers, physicians and researchers was selected to ride from San Diego to Washington, DC this fall as members of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope™, marking the third year of the cross-country journey. Driven by their ties to cancer, this team of avid cyclists covered 3,300 miles of American landscape in nine days to share their experiences and inspire those they met along the way to learn more about cancer research. Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong led the Team at the kick-off in San Diego and into Washington, DC for the finale, and also joined the Team at points along the route.
Selected by members of the cancer and cycling communities from a pool of nearly 1,100 applicants, the 2005 Tour of Hope Team was comprised of people from all walks of life. The diverse group included healthcare professionals, an Army reservist, a biologist, educators, a realtor, a sports attorney, in addition to individuals from the restaurant, software, business and investment industries.
The 2005 Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope Team members carried the momentum set by their predecessors on the 2003 and 2004 teams who cycled across the mountains and over the plains, reaching Americans in small towns and big cities with their inspirational stories.
